Two suspects have been arrested in separate areas on charges of threatening individuals by claiming to distribute sexually explicit photographs and videos on social media, including WhatsApp.
According to the Police, a 29-year-old man was arrested in Colombo- Fort for having obtained Rs. 222,000 by threatening to share sexually explicit photographs and videos on social media, including WhatsApp.
The Police Computer Crimes Investigation Division in the North-Western Province had received a complaint in this regard in January 2025. Based on the complaint, the Police had apprehended the suspect, a resident of Pannipitiya, last afternoon.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man from Bandaragama has also been arrested on charges of threatening to distribute sexually explicit photographs and videos on social media, including WhatsApp.
The Police Computer Crimes Investigation Division in the North-Western Province had received a complaint in this regard in January 2025. Based on the complaint, the suspect was arrested in the Kahathuduwa area yesterday.
