Three persons were reported dead in separate accidents reported within the 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.
A pedestrian between the ages of 40-50 has died after being knocked down by a car in the Dhippitigala area in Pelmadulla along the Colombo- Batticaloa main road last morning.
The Police state the identity of the deceased is unknown, while information on the vehicle involved in the accident is yet to be ascertained. The Pelmadulla Police is conducting investigations.
Meanwhile, a 68-year-old man has died after being hit by a van close to Kudawewa Junction along the Anamaduwa- Galgamuwa main road last evening.
The Police state the pedestrian had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Anamaduwa Hospital, while the driver of the van has been arrested in connection to the accident.
Furthermore, a 32-year-old man had died after a three-wheeler was involved in a multi-vehicle collision near the Kalugamuwa Junction along the Kurunegala- Negombo main road last afternoon.
The Police said the three-wheeler had collided from behind with a bus that had stopped to board passengers and had, thereafter, collided with another bus that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the three-wheeler and three passengers had been hospitalised following the accident after which the three-wheeler driver had succumbed to injuries.
The drivers of the two buses involved in the accident have been arrested, while the Weerambugedera Police are conducting investigations. (Newswire)
