The Department of Meteorology says heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northern provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts today.
Showers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces, while showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva and North-western provinces during the evening or night.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambanthota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.
Winds will be Easterly or North-easterly in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 15-30 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.
