Showers are expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today, with fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm likely in some places, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm are likely in some places.
Several spells of showers may occur in the North-western province and Matale district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
Strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and Southern provinces and Matale and Puttalam districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle.
Winds will be Westerly or South-westerly in direction and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
