Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has called out the National People’s Power (NPP) government over their recent decision to sign deals with Indian and Chinese companies, which the NPP had previously opposed during their tenure in the opposition.
While commending President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for completing successful visits to India and China, MP Rajapaksa questioned what prompted the government to sign the deals with Indian and Chinese companies that the NPP had previously referred to as “corrupt”.
“During the previous govts. when these Chinese & Indian companies showed interest on investing in Sri Lanka, it was this very NPP who stood against it, terming these companies as controversial, corrupt etc. However now, the NPP seems to have chewn its own words, claiming credit for signing FDIs with them,” the MP said in a message on ‘X’.
MP Namal Rajapaksa said that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake must come out and explain to the public why they opposed these Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) back then and why they tarnished the image of these Indian and Chinese companies.
“The NPP government must also come out and explain what their foreign policy is, which is still rather vague with no clear direction in sight,” MP Namal Rajapaksa added.
His comments come after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently conducted an official state visit to China during which both nations signed 15 agreements covering various sectors. (Newswire)
