Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. (SFOL) has announced the introduction of High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) to the Sri Lankan market for bunkering, a move that is set to transform the country’s maritime fuel sector. This strategic initiative underscores Sinopec’s commitment to customer centric solutions, addressing a significant supply gap in Sri Lanka’s bunkering industry. Currently, Sri Lanka faces a notable challenge in meeting the demand for HSFO due to the absence of shore-based storage facilities at all its ports, including the commercial port of Colombo. This limitation has constrained local bunker suppliers, restricting HSFO availability to small quantities and creating a shortfall in the market. The shortage affects the shipping industry’s ability to secure reliable fuel supplies, impacting maritime operations and efficiency. Recognizing this urgent need, SFOL has taken proactive measures to enhance Sri Lanka’s bunkering infrastructure by utilizing its storage terminal in Hambantota. Moving forward, this terminal will serve as the country’s exclusive facility for HSFO, ensuring a steady and reliable supply to meet growing demand. This development marks a significant milestone in strengthening Sri Lanka’s position as a competitive bunkering hub in the region. “This initiative reaffirms SFOL’s commitment to providing innovative fuel solutions that cater to the dynamic needs of the shipping industry,” stated Alice Lee, Deputy General Manager, Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. “By leveraging our storage capabilities in Hambantota, we ensure that vessels calling at Sri Lankan ports have access to consistent and high-quality HSFO supplies. This move supports the growth of Sri Lanka’s maritime sector and reinforces the country’s potential as a preferred refueling destination in South Asia.” With this development, SFOL is expected to deliver multiple advantages to the industry, including improved HSFO availability and reliability, which will encourage more shipping lines to refuel in Sri Lanka. The company’s ability to swiftly adapt to market demands highlights its reputation as a customer-focused and innovative energy provider. About Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka (Private) Limited Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka (Private) Limited (SFOL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sinopec Fuel Oil Sales Corporation Limited.
