Nearly 1 million electricity connections were disconnected within 2023, the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on Alleviating the Impact of the Economic Crisis was informed.
Chairman of the Committee MP Gamini Waleboda said the facts were revealed during a meeting with several institutions, including the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), on Thursday (Feb 22).
MP Waleboda called for the disconnected connections to be reconnected immediately and without charging a reconnection fee.
The Committee Chairman further called for the reconnection fee to be charged in installments.
MP Waleboda also recommended that a system be implemented for electricity tariffs to be paid in installments. (NewsWire)
