Heavy rains are expected in several areas of Sri Lanka today, most likely in the afternoon or evening, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Southern, North-central and Uva provinces after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Southern provinces and Anuradhapura and Monaragala districts.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be variable and wind speed will be 15-25 kmph. Sea areas around the island will be slight.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thunderstorms. (NewsWire)
