The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reported that as of Nov. 24, 2024, a total of 3,065 Sri Lankan nationals are on its non-detained docket with final orders of removal.
ICE stated that not all deportations can be carried out immediately due to legal and logistical challenges, including asylum claims and lack of cooperation from foreign governments.
The US expects all countries to verify citizenship, issue travel documents, and accept repatriation flights, but some nations delay the process.
ICE has designated 15 countries as uncooperative in accepting deported nationals, though Sri Lanka is not on the list. Additionally, 11 countries are considered at risk of non-compliance. (Newswire)
