Two individuals who had attempted to smuggle gemstones worth over Rs. 17 million to China have been arrested at the Katunayake Airport.
Customs Officials had arrested a Chinese man and his daughter at the Departure Terminal on Monday night.
The duo who had visited several areas in Sri Lanka for business activities were found to have concealed the gemstones, valued at Rs. 17,450,875, in their underwear.
The suspects aged 45 and 21 years old were found to be in possession of a variety of gemstones, including Chandrakanthi, Gomed, Garnet, Vaidurya, and Emerald.
Further investigations are underway into the arrests. (Newswire)
