An Enjoining Order has been issued restraining popular singer Senaka Batagoda from singing seven popular songs, including “Api Kavuruda” and “Api Senasille”.
The Enjoining Order was issued by Colombo Commercial High Court on Tuesday (Apr 02) after considering a complaint filed under the Intellectual Property Act by musician Janath Kulathilake.
Kulathilake had filed the case alleging that singer Senaka Batagoda has violated his intellectual property right and copyright by not giving the economic benefits due to him.
He has also sought Rs.100 million compensation for the damage committed by singer Senaka Batagoda.
Kulathilake is credited with the combined lyrics, melody and music compositor of the said seven songs sung by Senaka Batagoda.
Colombo Commercial High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando also ordered that the said songs cannot be provided to other parties without the written permission of the plaintiff.
The seven songs which were restrained under the enjoining order are “Api Kavuruda”, “Api Senasille”, “Alu Yata Gini”, “Rastha”, “Heena Walata Panak Thiyenawa”, “Senasuma” and “Hodama de”. (NewsWire)
