Gammanpila using Easter probe for election attention – NPP

Former MP Udaya Gammanpila has commenced speaking about the Easter Attack probe reports to gain media attention for the upcoming Parliamentary Election, National People’s Power (NPP) Executive Member K.D. Lalkantha said.

The NPP’s Kandy District leader said that Gammanpila, who is known to have previously incited racism and religious tensions, has now become politically invalid.

Addressing the media in Kandy yesterday (Oct 21), Lalkantha said that if Gammanpila had these Easter attack probe reports, he should have handed them over to the investigation teams as a responsible politician.

“Whether these people shout or not, they know that the President and the new government will do justice to the victims of the Easter attacks. The religious institutions of the victims and the society have that faith,” he pointed out.

Lalkantha said Gammanpila must be questioned as to why he had concealed these probe reports for so long and to protect whom.

The NPP Kandy District leader made these comments after the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader yesterday revealed details to the media on two unpublished reports related to the 2019 Easter Attacks.

Making a revelation on the two reports, Gammanpila said the reports recommend legal action against former Police officials Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekera.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s government recently appointed former SDIG Ravi Seneviratne as the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and former CID Director Shani Abeysekera as the Director of the Central Criminal Intelligence Analysis Bureau. (Newswire)
