A 26-year-old youth has been sentenced to life imprisonment for smuggling more than 25 grams of heroin into prison.
The life sentence was issued by Colombo High Court Manjula Thilakaratne today.
The youth had concealed the heroin in a food container which he had taken for his friend at the Colombo Remand Prison in December 2019.
However, he was arrested by Prison intelligence officials after which the Attorney General had filed charges of possession and peddling.
Following a long trial, the court sentenced him to life in prison after all charges against him had been proven. (Newswire)
