The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today that Rs. 245 million has been paid as compensation to victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, in accordance with the court’s ruling on fundamental rights petitions related to the failure to prevent the attacks.
The court was informed of this development during a hearing before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Murdu Fernando, Justices S. Thurairaja, and A.H.M.D. Nawaz.
The bench was reviewing 12 petitions related to the case.
The payments were made following the Supreme Court’s decision holding certain officials accountable for their inaction in preventing the attacks. (Newswire)
