Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has backed the government’s proposed Online Safety Bill.
Speaking to the media, MP Rajapaksa said the SLPP is of the view that social media must be regulated to a certain extent in Sri Lanka.
“We must focus on protecting the privacy of individuals. Therefore, it is essential to implement laws in this regard,” he said.
MP Rajapaksa further pointed out that any individual who takes accountability for the information, news or posts shared on social media has no reason to fear the Online Safety Bill.
The former minister also said that he expects all Parliamentarians, including Opposition MPs, will vote in support of the Bill.
The proposed Online Safety Bill is expected to be passed in Parliament tomorrow (Jan 24). (NewsWire)
