Sri Lanka’s economy, which is emerging from one of its worst crises in decades, is doing “remarkably well”, Foreign Minister Ali Sabry said on Monday (Jul 8).
In an exclusive interview with CNA’s Asia First programme in Singapore, Minister Sabry noted that tourists are coming to the country, that its currency has strengthened, and that all the indicators are in the right place.
Speaking on Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring, the minister revealed that as Sri Lanka has almost regained debt sustainability it will enable access to the international market on concessionary loans, which is necessary for Sri Lanka to kickstart its economy.
“Sri Lanka is eyeing to receive more investment in various sectors in the country. Sri Lanka has attained stability from the economic crisis it faced but is yet to start its growth. At present, Sri Lanka’s focus is on getting back to growth to improve the living standards, income and salaries of the people,” he said.
Minister Ali Sabry said this needs to be resolved only via investments in various sectors. (Newswire)
