Talangama Police have recorded statements from at least eight employees regarding the theft of copper strips valued at Rs. 5.1 million from the premises of the Education Ministry’s Isurupaya building in Pelawatta, Battaramulla.
Police said that the individuals questioned include several employees holding various positions.
The stolen copper strips, used as a lightning conductor and spanning 1,731 feet, were installed atop the ministry’s buildings.
Police had launched an investigation after a Development Officer from the ministry lodged a complaint with the Talangama Police.
Initial investigations revealed that access to the rooftop, where the strips were installed, was restricted to ministry employees only, making it improbable for outsiders to reach the area.
Despite the presence of several security guards throughout the premises, the stolen copper strips were taken outside.
Further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
