Sri Lanka recorded a considerable drop in inflation for January 2025, as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI, 2021=100).
According to the latest data from Central Bank and the Department of Census and Statistics, the Year-on-Year inflation rate fell to -4.0%, compared to -1.7% in December 2024.
Food inflation declined to -2.6% in January, down from 0.8% in December, while non-food inflation stood at -4.7%.
Despite the negative inflation trend, the overall CCPI for all items rose slightly to 192.6 in January from 191.7 in December, with Month-on-Month changes contributing 0.11% from food and 0.36% from non-food items.
The CCPI Core Index, which measures underlying inflation, also increased to 178.4 from 177.1 in December. (Newswire)
