The investigations into a racket, where illegally imported vehicles had been registered under old and invalid vehicle numbers, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), it was reported.
According to Daily News, the investigations being carried out by the Central Anti-Corruption Task Force were handed over to the CID on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The officials of the CID’s Illegal Property & Assets Investigation Division took over the investigation yesterday (22) into the organized smuggling of 430 cars and jeeps imported illegally and registered under old and invalid vehicle numbers.
Investigations have revealed that the racket was being carried out allegedly with the help of corrupt officials at the Motor Vehicle Registration Department.
The investigations have been handed over to the CID due to the large number of cases being handled by the Central Anti-Corruption Force on a daily basis. (NewsWire)
