Sri Lankan leaders have extended their congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump following his victory in the United States presidential election.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake offered “warm congratulations” to Trump, acknowledging the strong endorsement he received to serve as the 47th U.S. president. Dissanayake expressed his hope for continued collaboration, emphasizing the importance of pursuing common objectives that benefit both Sri Lanka and the United States.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also congratulated Trump, expressing wishes for “peace, goodwill, and meaningful cooperation” during his upcoming term. Premadasa said he hopes for wisdom and strength in Trump’s leadership as he navigates the country’s future.
Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe praised Trump’s return to office as a “historic accomplishment,” comparing it to the unique political journey of former U.S. President Grover Cleveland. Wickramasinghe highlighted the trust the American people have placed in Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, to “Make America Great Again,” and wished them success in their endeavors.
