A consensus has been reached between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of India to establish solar power plants with a total capacity of 120 megawatts in Sampur, Trincomalee.
The project will be implemented in two stages: a 50 MW solar power plant in the first phase and a 70 MW plant in the second phase. The initiative will be undertaken as a joint venture between the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on a construction, ownership, and operation basis.
The 50 MW solar power project will be executed by Trincomalee Power Company Ltd, a partnership between CEB and NTPC, originally formed for the Sampur coal power project. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Power and Energy to proceed with the necessary steps for project implementation. (Newswire)
