6 deaths in 3 accidents reported on Friday

Police reported that six people were killed in separate accidents across the country on Friday (5th).

Four men died after a lorry traveling on the Badulla-Thennapanguwa road veered off and crashed near the Welihinda area on Friday afternoon. According to the police, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure on a steep section of the road, leading to the crash.

The victims, aged 32, 40, 58, and 63, were residents of Horombuwa, Monaragala. They included the driver of the lorry. Three others were injured and admitted to Badulla Hospital, police said.

In a separate incident, a 46-year-old man died in an accident in the Buttala police division on Friday night. This occurred on the Pelawatta Sugar Company premises when a tractor towing a bowser met with an accident. The driver was run over by the tractor after falling from the vehicle.

Additionally, a 37-year-old was killed in an accident on the Monaragala-Matara main road in the Lunugamwehera police division. A three-wheeler traveling from Thanamalwila towards Tissamaharama crashed into a bridge after the driver lost control. The passenger of the three-wheeler succumbed to critical injuries after being admitted to Lunugamwehera Hospital. (NewsWire)
