Several Sri Lankan cricketers have been rested for today’s World Cup warm-up match against Afghanistan, stand-in skipper Kusal Mendis revealed.
Speaking after losing the toss to Afghanistan, Mendis said skipper Dasun Shanaka has been rested for today’s warm-up match due to recovering from an Tennis Elbow injury.
He further said that Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana has also been rested for today’s match.
Kusal Janith Perera is expected to recover within the next few days, while Maheesh Theekshana is also expected to come back strong, Mendis said, adding that the team will be happy to have Theekshana back in the squad.
Commenting on the team’s confidence level going into the World Cup, Mendis said Sri Lanka has been playing quite good cricket in the last three months and that the team currently consists of good batting and bowling units.
Afghanistan won the toss and elected to field in the World Cup warm up match in Guwahati, however, the game has been delayed due to rain.
