The Court of Appeal has ordered the temporary suspension of the hearing on the case filed against MP Patali Champika Ranawaka on an accident reported in Rajagiriya in 2016.
The Court of Appeal announced the decision by issuing an interim injunction today (Nov 24).
The interim injunction is effective until the hearing of a petition put forward by MP Ranawaka challenging the case.
The case was filed against MP Ranawaka for allegedly critically injuring a motorcyclist in an accident involving his Jeep in Rajagiriya in 2016.
The MP, who had reportedly allegedly fled the scene, had been accused of producing his driver in court as the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
MP Ranawaka was later arrested and remanded in December 2019 over the accident on the instructions of the Attorney General but was later released on bail.
The AG thereafter filed indictments against the MP for causing grievous injury to a person by rash and negligent acts and other charges over the accident. (NewsWire)
