The leave of all Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees has been cancelled until further notice.
The announcement was made via a circular issued by the Acting General Manager of the CEB on Tuesday (Jan 02), in line with the President’s earlier declaration of electricity as an essential service.
As per the circular, employees can only obtain leave with the permission of their higher officers.
The move has been taken in anticipation of a two-day strike action that was to be launched by CEB employees from today.
The CEB United Trade Union Alliance was to stage a strike action against the restructuring and privatization of the CEB.
Convener of the Alliance Ranjan Jayalal told the media yesterday that the strike has been planned to urge the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera to withdraw the proposal submitted in this regard. (NewsWire)
