Nearly 66 employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have been interdicted thus far over their involvement in a token strike early in January this year.
CEB Spokesman Noel Priyantha said that initially 15 clerical staff operating cash counters were interdicted.
He said the group was interdicted for closing the cash counters during the token strike severely inconveniencing the public.
Further investigations led to the interdiction of another 51 employees whose actions were also found to have caused severe inconvenience to the public, he said.
The move comes over the CEB United Trade Union Alliance’s two-day strike that was held from January 03, 2024, against the restructuring and privatization of the CEB.
At the time, the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera had instructed the CEB management to take action against any employee who disrupt services by engaging in the strike action. (NewsWire)
