The prevailing showery weather condition in the south-western part of Sri Lanka is expected to continue further, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today.
Fairly heavy showers above 50mm can be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Puttalam districts.
A few showers will occur in the Northern province and in the Anuradhapura district.
Fairly strong winds about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankesanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
