At least 50 elephants have died in 2024 as a result of illegal power lines connected to fences, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
In response to the crisis, the CEB said it has introduced several measures to tackle these illegal activities. The CEB has also appealed for public help to help safeguard Sri Lanka’s wild elephant population.
Accordingly, public were requested to inform the CEB of any illegal activity where illegal power lines were connected to fences and cables through the 1987 hotline or 0112 118767. (Newswire)
