Over Rs. 8.6 million has been earned in revenue at expressways as of 03.00 p.m. yesterday, by security forces who manned the toll gate operations due to a strike action.
The All Island Expressways Union launched a one-day token strike on Wednesday (Nov 22) over three key demands, including the privatization of the expressway network and job security.
The security forces were deployed to man the operations at the Southern, Katunayake and Central Expressways of Sri Lanka.
According to reports, the breakdown of the collection of revenue by the security forces as of 03.00 pm yesterday is as follows:
Sri Lanka Army at the Southern expressway – Rs. 1,635,940.
Sri Lanka Air Force at the Katunayake Expressway – Rs. 5,951,090.
Sri Lanka Navy at the Central Expressway (Kurunegala) – Rs. 1,022 900. (NewsWire)
