The proposals submitted by a committee to investigate the causes of flooding in Kolonnawa have received the green light for implementation.
In June, a committee under the chairmanship of the Colombo District Secretary was appointed to investigate the underlying causes of the constant flooding of the Kolonnawa area. The committee was tasked with submitting a report including the recommendations to prevent the recurrence of such situations and formulate a comprehensive development plan for the reorganization of Kolonnawa town, the Government said.
Accordingly, 16 recommendations have been submitted by the committee, including the report prepared by the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, the Kollonnawa city development plan by the Urban Development Authority and the Kotikawatta-Mulleriyawa city development plan.
The plans and proposals are to be implemented within a 04 month period in order to prevent the recurrence of such situations.
Thereby, the Cabinet has approved the proposal presented by the President to implement these recommendations through the relevant responsible institutions after proper study and to appoint a committee under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister for the necessary guidance and supervision. (Newswire)
