A suspect arrested by Wadduwa Police and later released on bail has died under unclear circumstances, with the suspect’s family alleging that he was assaulted by Police officers.
Police issuing a statement said that the individual was taken into custody by officers on nigh patrol on February 10, 2025.
After being granted bail, he reportedly fell ill and was admitted to the Panadura hospital, where he later passed away, Police said.
Relatives of the deceased have lodged a complaint, raising concerns over the circumstances of his arrest and subsequent death. A post-mortem examination is scheduled today (Feb 12).
The Police Media unit said that an internal investigation is underway, and forensic experts will conduct further examinations into the incident. (Newswire)
