The National Election Commission has outlined the scenarios in which drawing lots could be used to determine the winner of the upcoming Presidential Election.
Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, told NewsWire that there are only two instances in which Commission members would draw lots.
Ratnayake explained that if no candidate secures 50% of the votes, and the second and third-placed candidates have received an equal number of votes, the Election Commission will draw lots to select the candidate who will be considered the second-leading contender for the 2nd preferential count.
He further added that after the overall counting process is complete, if both leading candidates have obtained an equal number of votes, the Election Commission will draw lots to select a winner (NewsWire)
