Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has called for an investigation into the actions of the Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) during yesterday’s meeting with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials.
Addressing the Parliament today (Nov 15), MP Premadasa said video footage has emerged of the COPE Chairman indirectly signalling SLC representatives to refrain from disclosing information.
Urging the Speaker of the House to investigate the matter, MP Premadasa pointed out that the actions of the COPE Chairman had violated the rights of the other members of the COPE Committee.
Responding to the allegations, COPE Chairman Ranjith Bandara refuted the claims, stating that he had only indicated one person to speak at a time.
Stating that MP Madura Vithanage bears witness to the happenings, MP Bandara urged the Opposition to refrain from making the issue political.
He further urged the opposition to allow the Committee on Public Enterprises to function as an independent committee devoid of political interferences. (NewsWire)
