The main Opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has filed an intervening petition requesting that the petition filed by Attorney-at-Law Aruna Laksiri concerning the presidential election, be dismissed.
The intermediary petition was filed before the court by SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna today.
The SJB’s intervention comes as the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by Attorney-at-Law Aruna Laksiri seeking an order to withhold the Presidential Election has been fixed for hearing today.

The FR petition is scheduled to be taken up for consideration by the three-judge Supreme Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, and Justices Arjuna Obeysekera and Priyantha Fernando.
In his petition, Attorney-at-Law Aruna Laksiri requests to withhold the Presidential Election as the 19th Amendment to the Constitution has yet to be properly passed in Parliament.
The lawyer has further sought a referendum to properly pass the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
He points out that holding an election at this juncture was a violation of the Constitution of Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
