A 49-year-old Indian national has been arrested on charges of having allegedly sexually abused an 08-year-old Sri Lankan girl on a SriLankan Airlines flight, it was reported.
According to Mawbima Newspaper, the suspect is an Indian national and a carpenter by profession, who was on a transit flight to Sri Lanka from Saudi Arabia.
The incident is reported to have taken place on board a SriLankan Airlines flight that had left Saudi Arabia for Sri Lanka last morning (Dec 13).
The victim and her mother, residents of Avissawella, are reported to have been returning to Sri Lanka onboard the flight after visiting the child’s father employed in Saudi Arabia.
Following the alleged sexual abuse of her daughter, the woman had informed the Cabin crew onboard the flight.
Upon reaching Sri Lanka, the suspect was arrested by the Katunayake Airport Police, while he and the victim were admitted to the Negombo General Hospital for a medical examination.
The suspect is expected to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
