Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa announced plans to convene an international aid conference to support the war-affected Northern and Eastern provinces if he becomes President.
This initiative would also benefit the remaining seven provinces. Premadasa made this statement during a rally in Dehiattakandiya.
He criticized the current government’s actions in reducing the number of Civil Defense sector officials and emphasized that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) had been the strongest voice in Parliament advocating for these officers. He promised that under an SJB government, salary increments and benefits provided to public servants would also extend to Civil Defense officers. Premadasa also pledged higher payouts for those retiring voluntarily, additional benefits for disabled officers, and the reinstatement of those unjustly removed from service. (Newswire)
