Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manathunga has clarified that a photograph of Yoshitha Rajapaksa taken during his detention did not originate from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) or any police officer.
Speaking to the media, SSP Manathunga said the image, which has been widely shared on social media, was taken by a friend or another individual present when Rajapaksa was detained at the Beliatta Expressway checkpoint.
Manathunga also explained that the use of handcuffs is not mandatory for all suspects and is left to the discretion of the officer in charge, based on the suspect’s behavior at the time.
He added that the officers involved acted in accordance with legal procedures and assured that no political influence affected the handling of the case.
