The daughter-in-law of a former member of the North-Central Provincial Council has been remanded for the possession of 28 bullets, it was reported.
The 44-year-old woman was remanded until today for being in possession of live ammunition at her residence in Gallenbindunuwewa.
The woman’s 11-year-old son was found to have brought one bullet, belonging to a T-56 firearm, to school. A teacher who had seen the child with the bullet had informed the school principal in this regard.
The school principal had then informed the Gallenbindunuwewa Police, who had taken the child along to inspect his house.
During the inspection, they found 17 T-56 bullets, 10 bullets for a 9mm pistol, and one bullet for a revolver which had been placed inside a plastic bag being used to keep money inside a cupboard.
The child’s mother had been taken to the Police station to record a statement, after which she was arrested and remanded last week.
