The Sri Lanka Police have announced a special traffic operation in certain areas as part of its ongoing islandwide special operation ‘Yukthiya’ to curtail drugs and underworld-related activities in the nation.
The Police said the special traffic operation will be in effect for one week starting today (Jan 05).
As part of the operation, vehicles, including buses, will be inspected on the Colombo – Kandy Road near the Kelaniya University old building and on the Colombo – Negombo Road near the Oliyamulla School in Negombo from 10.00 am to 02.00 pm today.
Meanwhile, another 1,184 suspects have been arrested during the islandwide special operation ‘Yukthiya’ conducted until 12.30 am today.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, 337g of heroin, 242g of ICE, 6.6 kilos of cannabis, and 1,221 narcotic pills have been recovered by the Police.
Over 25,000 suspects have been apprehended in over 23,000 raids conducted by the Police Special Task Force (STF) since December 17, 2024. (NewsWire)
