Showers are expected in some areas of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and Matale, Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Matara, Hambantota and Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Matara, Hambantota and Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar may be fairly rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
