The ill-timed decision of some to not extend support for the President has worked in favour of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha said.
The minister was referring to the announcement of the President contesting independently as a national candidate, while the Rajapaksa-led SLPP announced it would field its own candidate
Minister Premajayantha said the 2022 ‘Aragalaya’ reached the international level and went strongly against the Rajapaksas, which has now worked in favour of the President.
The mass protests against the Rajapaksa regime caused many to rethink their allegiance, he said.
