National Peoples’ Power (NPP) member Sunil Handunneththi has issued an apology to billionaire businessman Elon Musk for calling him an “economic hitman.”
Handunneththi clarified that his statement had been misinterpreted and acknowledged using unfavorable terms to describe Musk.
“While speaking in Badulla, I referred to global investor and entrepreneur Elon Musk as haadaya (a guy) and an economic hitman. That should be corrected. I accept this,” he said.
On Friday, Handunneththi addressed a gathering in Badulla and likened Musk to other prominent billionaires, including Hungarian-American hedge fund manager and philanthropist George Soros and Australian businessman and investor James Packer, referring to them as economic hitmen.
Handunneththi extended his apologies to anyone, particularly those in the technology sector, who was offended by his remarks about Musk.
“I also extend my apologies to Mr. Elon Musk for inadvertently making such a comment,” Handunneththi said. (Newswire)
