The Finance Ministry has informed the Election Commission of Sri Lanka that it is prepared to allocate the necessary funds for the forthcoming presidential election, State Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
This was communicated during a meeting held with the Election Commission, attended by Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena, on Wednesday.
A sum of Rs. 10 billion has been allocated for election purposes under the 2024 Budget, Minister Siyambalapitiya stated, noting that the government is capable of dispensing funds due to its strong practice of financial discipline.
Funds will be prioritized for election-related postage, printing, and security purposes, Siyambalapitiya said, adding that funds for other expenses will be released as required. (Newswire)
