Indian Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi took oath today for a third consecutive term as the head of a coalition government, following two full terms in which the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJB) had a majority.
At 73, Modi equals the achievement of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who won the general elections in 1952, 1957, and 1962.
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who left the island this morning to take part in Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, received a warm welcome in New Delhi.
The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Indian President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, saw the attendance of several world leaders, including Ranil Wickremesinghe. (Newswire)
