Officers from the Hikkaduwa Police Life Saving Unit rescued three foreign nationals from drowning in separate incidents along the coastal areas on Feb. 23.
At Narigama Beach, a 37-year-old Russian man and a 32-year-old Russian woman were caught in a sudden strong current while swimming. Police Officers Deshapriya, Hemakumara, Adheesha, Disanayaka, and Jayasinghe, responded swiftly, rescuing the couple and administering first aid.
Later that afternoon, a 30-year-old Austrian woman encountered similar difficulties at Pannamgoda Beach. Police officers Sirimal, Bandara and Kumara intervened, bringing her to safety and providing immediate medical assistance.
