Six suspects have been arrested for aiding the shooting incident reported in Sripura on August 08, with investigations revealing it had been carried out on the orders of an underworld figure living in Dubai.
The Police said two gunmen on a motorcycle had shot the victim near Pillayar Junction in the Gemunupura area and had fled the area.
The Sripura Police had launched investigations into the shooting leading to the arrest of six suspects yesterday.
The suspects aged between 20 and 47 years, are residents of Welioya, Padaviya, Kebithigollewa, and Parakramapura.
Interrogation of the suspects had revealed that the shooting had been orchestrated by underworld figure Kankanamge Priyantha Gunasir alias Pathala Priyantha over a personal dispute.
The Police said it was further revealed that the victim killed in the incident was not the intended target, and it was another individual.
The Sripura Police is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
