A total of 13,264 persons from 3,556 families have been severely affected due to the prevalent inclement weather conditions experienced across Sri Lanka.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, families across seven districts have been affected within the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.
A total of 411 persons from 125 families have been placed in five safety shelters, while 917 persons from 242 families are placed at the houses of their relatives.
Meanwhile, the DMC has also issued yellow alerts for landslide warnings in five districts, effective until 06.00 pm today.
Accordingly, landslide warnings have been issued to the Badulla, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Kegalle districts.
Furthermore, the Irrigation Department reports that minor floods have been reported in the Panadugama and Thalgahagoda areas due to rising water levels in the Nilwala River.
According to the Irrigation Department, the water level is rising near the Thalgahagoda area, while it is receding in Panadugama. (Newswire)
