The right to access healthcare will be recognized as a fundamental right in the new Constitution, according to Minister Nalinda Jayathissa.

Speaking at the annual social welfare event of the All-Island Kidney Patients’ Association, Jayathissa said this move would allow citizens to seek legal remedies if the right is violated.

The event, held at the Mahaweli Centre, was attended by the association’s chief patron, Dr. Sanjaya Heyyanthuduwa, Professor Mandika Wijeratne, and other dignitaries.

Highlights included the launch of the association’s updated website, distribution of gifts to children with kidney ailments, and the release of the 29th edition of Kidney related news magazine and the association’s calendar. (Newswire)
