The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says electricity tariffs will be reduced from July 16.
According to Mawbima newspaper, PUCSL Chairman Manjula Fernando said the final decision on electricity tariffs will be taken on July 15.
Manjula Fernando said stakeholder consultations to seek public opinion regarding the revision of the 02nd electricity tariff for the year 2024 proposed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be accepted till July 08th.
He further said that the oral session of the public consultation will be held on July 09th in Colombo.
Thereafter, the PUCSL is expected to review the oral and written comments on the proposals from July 9th and the final decision is to be announced on July 15.
The PUCSL Chairman added that how the electricity bill will be reduced and the effective date of the reduction will also be announced on the said date.
The CEB has proposed the following electricity tariff reduction to the PUCSL:
- 0-30 units –
reduced by Rs. 2 from Rs. 8 to Rs. 6
- 30-60 units –
reduced by Rs. 11 from Rs. 20 to Rs. 09
- 60-90 units –
reduced by Rs. 12 from Rs. 30 to Rs. 18
- 90- 120 units –
reduced by Rs. 20 from Rs. 50- Rs. 30 (Newswire)
