Sun –
The sun will be directly over four areas in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka today (Aug. 30), the Department of Meteorology stated.
At around 12. 11 p.m. today the sun will be above Talaimannar in the Mannar district, Iramiyankulam in the Vavuniya district, Karappukutti in the Trincomalee district, and Palampasi in the Mulathivu District.
According to the Met Department, as per the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka until September 07 this year.
Rain –
The prevailing showery condition is expected to continue in the southwestern part of the Island during the next few days, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Thereby, showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today.
Fairly heavy showers of about 75mm can be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Mullaitivu district in the evening or night.
Fairly strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times in the western slopes of the central hills, western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
Sea areas –
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle today.
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be 25-40 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times. The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle and Matara may be fairly rough at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
